Railway Cable (EN 45545-2)

Railway cables are very important in order to meet the current challenges the railway industry is confronted with. It doesn´t matter if it is the current supply on board or in the base of the rail, various control tasks, data transmission or if a complete cable network is required – in all fields cables for highest performance requirements are needed. EN45545-2 Compliant.

Your safety choice of Railway Cable, the standard of EN-45545-2

Volume of wires and cables used in rail transit vehicles is high, and therefore, the European Union EN 45545-2 has strict requirements in terms of fire protection for wires and cables applied in rail transit vehicles. The purpose of this standard is to formulate rules related to the selection of materials based on the flammability of the material and the reaction to fire, the impermeability of smoke and the toxicity of the gas emitted.

The standard is divided into 26 different categories based on different materials and three hazard levels based on operating environments. Three main purposes of EN45545:
    1. Test methods for fire protection of rail vehicles,
    2. Verification of test methods, and
    3. Protection of passengers and flight attendants in the event of a fire
  • Conductor : 0 - 48 AWG

    How to select railway cable

The three hazard level classification depends on how many kilometres the trolley is in tunnels and whether it is automatic, two-storey or if sleepers are on board, with HL1 being the lowest requirement and HL3 being the highes. Below table provides more detail information about the classification.
    Hazard level classification*
